Pope Shenouda III Coptic Orthodox Theological College
|
Address:
70 Wollongong Rd Arncliffe NSW 2205
- Fourteen
years after the establishment of the Coptic Orthodox
Church in Australia, a new generation of Coptic
Australians had sprung up and the Church felt an urging
need to establish a Theological College to pass on the
rich spiritual and cultural heritage to the new
generation.
There was also a need to have a formal system of
education for training new teachers as Sunday School and
Youth leaders.
On July 18, 1982, His Grace Bishop Antonios Markos,
being delegated by His Holiness Pope Shenouda III
officially opened the Coptic
Theological College in Sydney. The College was named
after His Holiness Pope Shenouda III to demonstrate our
loyalty to our spiritual leader who was exiled at the
time. The objectives of the College were outlined to be;
1. Pastoral Service
2. Christian Education
3. Evangelical Service
During the first Papal visit to Sydney in 1989, the
College was honoured to have His Holiness inaugurate its
first graduation ceremony. His Holiness also officially
opened the College's existing premises. The diploma
course offered by the College is recognised by the
Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate as being equivalent to the
Post-graduate Diploma courses offered by the Coptic
Orthodox Theological Colleges in Cairo.

St
Mark’s College was the first Coptic school to be established in
Sydney and the third in Australia, following the two schools in
Melbourne. After many difficulties in finding a site, it began in a
small, rented, unused Catholic school in Lidcombe in 1996 with 226
students from Kindergarten to Year 7. Fr Markos Tawfik was the
founding Director of the College. In 1997, a new Board was
established for the College under the direction of HG Bishop Paula
and Fr Antonios Kaldas became Director. In 1999, the College moved
to its present permanent site at Wattle Grove in the south west of
Sydney.
